Today’s gospel (Matthew 2:1-18) tells the story of Herod’s fear of the newborn king of the Jews and ordered all boys under the age of two years old to be killed. That fear remains in hearts today, with the millions of unborn babies that are being killed by abortion. Today is the feast of the Holy Innocents, the babies that were martyred during Herod’s command. I also include as martyrs, each and every baby that has been taken from their mother’s womb.
We are called to walk in the light of Christ and love anyone and everyone who has been involved in an abortion: the client, the provider, the onlooker, or the pro-life activist. Jesus also wants each of us to receive His light, His warm, loving embrace of forgiveness and mercy. To receive His encouragement for those who are trying to change the hearts of many.
My family has come to understand the truth of what it means to respect life at all stages, but especially for those who cannot stand up for themselves, the unborn. Sometimes, it has been very difficult to understand the actions of those involved, but in the end, our only choice is to love, love and love some more.
Pray for the Holy Innocents today.
